Here at Jiu-Jitsu Advertising, one of our SEO strategies is to write new local pages every month. These pages act as landing pages for the classes you offer in your area. Here is a full look at the purpose of those pages and what kind of content we put on them.
What Are Local Pages?
As we briefly mentioned, local pages are similar to landing pages that can show up in search results for very specific searches. For example, if someone Googles “BJJ classes in Bergen County”, and you have a page on your site with that title, URL, and content to support it, it’s very likely going to show up in search results.
We write local pages every month as part of our SEO strategy because it is one of the fastest ways to get a site to show up for the classes you offer.
What Information Do You Write on These Pages?
In order to help the page show up in search results, we have a pretty specific formula we follow when writing these types of pages. Here is a typical outline:
- Intro – we write 3-4 sentences that include the type of class or specific keyword phrase (such as BJJ classes near me), the city we are writing for, and the name of your school. We also include the name of the instructor in this opening paragraph.
- Body of the page – the body of the page has 3 main sections. The first section has a header that uses the keyword we are trying to get the page to show up for. For example, this could be Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes for kids. We write up to two paragraphs about the Jiu-Jitsu programs you have for kids. The second section is specific to the city we want the page to rank for. We write information about the city itself and where it is in relation to the school. And the last section we write has FAQ content around the keyword we are targeting.
- Call to action – we end the page with a header and paragraph that encourages the reader to contact the school for more information. In this closing paragraph, we mention the name of the school, location, instructor’s name, and main keyword we are trying to rank for.
A lot of SEO companies write local pages for their clients, but we notice that not all agencies write local pages that show up in search results. We know for a fact that our formula helps these pages show up when someone is searching for the keywords.
Tips For Uploading A Local Page
Not only do we write with SEO best practices, but we also upload the content with best practices as well. This includes making the URL, the title of the page, and SEO title all be the keyword phrase we want to show up for. For example, it could be self-defense classes for kids in Dallas TX. If that is the keyword phrase we want to show up for, we will make it part of the URL of the page, title the page with that phrase, and set the SEO title to be the same.
Another thing we do when we upload is added that phrase as an alt tag to an image on the page. Alt tags on images allow those images to show up in image searches. This is why it’s a good idea to use images of your school if you can. But if you can’t, uploading any relevant image is important.
The last thing we do is make sure we link this page up on the areas served page that we create when we onboard new clients. This is a basic page that has all of the cities that your potential students live in. As we write the new pages, we link them up here so that Google can find them on the site. If you don’t link up these pages on the site in the footer or menu of the site, there’s little chance they will rank.
