Have you tried to find your Jiu-Jitsu school by Googling it, and it didn’t come up? Here at Jiu-Jitsu Advertising, we help our clients to show up in search results for a variety of combinations. One thing we do is educate them on how to find their rank position on Google as well as understand how organic search works.
Here are some things you need to know about keywords.
There Are Different Keyword Variations
Oftentimes, we’ll have a client look for a specific keyword, such as Jiu-Jitsu classes, but they don’t see their school come up. However, if they searched for another variation, like Jiu-Jitsu schools near me, they may show up for that.
Every word combination is a different keyword phrase that can show different results. Even if it is just one word off or a different word order, it can pull different search results. While you may not show up for one keyword phrase, you may be showing up for other valuable phrases.
You Need to Choose The Right Keywords
Your website will naturally show up for some terms if you have spent time writing content and keeping it fresh. However, if you plan to target specific keywords, which we recommend that you do, you’ll need to pick the right keywords to get potential students to your site.
A few things we consider when we chose a keyword includes:
- Volume – number of times the word is searched per month.
- Ad value – this is the estimated dollar amount you’d pay per click if you were targeting this keyword with an ad.
- Ranking status – some keywords are harder to rank for organically than others, so it is best to go with terms that are easy to rank for.
- User intent – this is the intent of what the user is looking for when they search the term. Someone searching for “Jiu-Jitsu classes near me” has a different intent than someone looking for “Jiu-Jitsu instructor certification classes”.
We take all of these factors into account before targeting them on our clients’ websites.
Write New Content to Target Keywords on Your BJJ Site
There are only so many keyword phrases and terms that any single page on your site can rank for. Since “Jiu-Jitsu schools near me” and “Jiu-Jitsu classes” would be two different keywords, you should create pages that target them specifically.
As a local business, the pages you create should also mention the city your school is listed in. If there are neighboring cities that students will drive from, you should mention those as well. This allows you to combine the keyword phrase with the local search phrase. For example, you could create a page called Jiu-Jitsu Schools in Fairfield, NJ. This page won’t receive a lot of traffic, but the people that visit the page will be very hot leads because the search terms are so specific.
Your GMB Listing Can Rank For Keywords
Not only does your website have the ability to show up for search terms, but so does your Google My Business (GMB) listing. This is a free listing that Google provides for businesses. If you don’t already have it set up, look to see if Google has created one for you. Sometimes, they will create these listings and all you have to do is claim it and verify it.
Otherwise, if you don’t have this listing set up, you can go to Google My Business and create a listing there. As part of our SEO services, we set up these listings for our clients as well as manage them.
